What is Occupational Therapy?

We take most daily activities for granted - such as having a shower, preparing a meal, or getting dressed. But being unable, or finding it difficult, to do these things, can have a huge impact on our quality of life.

Occupational Therapists

Occupational Therapists (OT's) work with clients to improve their daily living and working skills, either through activities, exercises or via specialist aids and adaptations. An Occupational Therapists (OT's) aim is to help their client's lead independent, productive and satisfying lives.

OT Assessments

An OT will identify and assess their client's difficulties and strengths in carrying out certain tasks. They look at what items are needed to carry out the activity (e.g. furniture or clothes) and finally will look at the environment (e.g. layout of the home). Next they will see what support options are available, and review which activities their clients would like to be able to perform more easily, making recommendations around possible equipment, adaptations or treatment plans which will help facilitate these end goals.
